On Monday, November 5, 2012, at approximately 9:55 AM, Idaho State Police investigated a one-vehicle logging truck crash on SH55 at milepost 94, three miles south of Smith's Ferry.

Gene Kelly, 33, from Emmett, was travelling southbound on SH55 in a 1984 Peterbuilt Tractor pulling a trailer loaded with logs. Kelly was rounding a curve when he lost control and the truck tipped over on it's driver's side, spilling the logs over both lanes of travel. Both lanes of travel were blocked for approximately 40 minutes. An ITD snow plow assisted with pushing the logs out of the lane of travel.

Traffic was directed around the scene for an hour and a half awaiting the arrival of a wrecker. The southbound lane of travel was blocked for another 2 hours whle the truck and trailer were uprighted, the logs loaded, and all were removed. Traffic was diverted around the scene during the blockage through via the northbound lane.

All lanes are open at this time. The crash remains under investigation.
